Facial Injectable Fillers

Restylane^®

Restylane^® is a cosmetic dermal filler that replaces lost volume and restores youthful contours to the skin.  It can smooth away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth.  Restylane^® is FDA approved and provides long lasting wrinkle correction of about six months.

Restylane^® is the first cosmetic dermal filler made from hyaluronic acid and is the No.1 selling dermal filler in the U.S. and world-wide.  The hyaluronic acid has been modified slightly to last longer than the human body’s hyaluronic acid which provides volume and fullness to the skin.

Restylane^® is administered by injection with an ultrafine needle.  Dr. Flynn performs all injections himself as your result is dependent upon the artistry, skill and experience of the individual administering the Restylane^®.  Topical anesthesia is applied to your skin and a dental block injection of lidocaine administered under your upper lip is available but is not always necessary.

Restylane^® contains no animal proteins and therefore limits allergic reactions.  No allergy test is required and administration of Restylane^® can be done on your initial visit to Dr. Flynn’s office.

Juvéderm™

Juvéderm™ is an injectable facial filler recently approved by the FDA for adding volume and correcting facial wrinkles and creases.  Juvéderm™ is composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in your skin, and is produced by Allergan, the creators of BOTOX®.  Juvéderm™ gives a smooth, natural look and feel.

A topical anesthetic or injection of a numbing medication may be administered by Dr. Flynn, if desired to minimize discomfort.  There are two types of Juvéderm™ products – Juvéderm™ Ultra and Juvéderm™ Ultra Plus.  The Ultra Plus product is a more robust formula used to volumize and improve deeper wrinkles and creases.  Both products last up to six months and sometimes longer.

Dr. Flynn personally administers the injection of Juvéderm as well as all other injections at the Medical Spa.  Dr. Flynn feels that injections by a board certified plastic surgeon is a standard of care that patients should insist on.  Dr. Flynn’s medical experience and skill stem from an in-depth knowledge of facial anatomy and knowledge of each injectable product available.

ArteFill^®

ArteFill^® is the first and only FDA approved non-resorbable cosmetic injectable implant for the correction of wrinkles.

ArteFill^® consists of a proprietary combination of ArteFill^® Precision Filtered microspheres suspended in a carrier gel containing ArteFill^® Purified Bovine Collagen with 0.3% lidocaine.  The microspheres are made of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA); one of the most commonly used artificial implant materials in medicine.  Following injection, the microspheres remain intact at the injection side and provide a permanent structure to support the wrinkles and help prevent further wrinkling. 

Administration of an ArteFill^® skin test is required prior to treatment.  Positive skin reactions are rare and most reactions develop within the first 72 hours; however, responses may occur at any time during a four week evaluation period.  Patient skin tests must be monitored for four weeks before beginning treatment with ArteFill^®.

Lip Augmentation

Fuller, plumper lips can be achieved by a variety of lip augmentation techniques.  Dr. Flynn will help you select the lip augmentation method which is best for you.  The technique chosen will depend on individual patient factors and your goals for the procedures, as well as Dr. Flynn's recommendations.

The simplest technique for lip augmentation is injection with Restylane^® or Juvéderm^™.  Following lip augmentation, your lips may be somewhat swollen for a few hours, but you should be able to return to work or social activities immediately.  Results are temporary, and repeat treatments are necessary to maintain the desired effect.

A fascia graft of your body’s own tissue is longer lasting and can be done at the same time as another procedure such as a facelift.
