How much do I need?
There is confusion about how much BOTOX® is needed for different areas of the face. People often think they are getting a good deal on BOTOX® when they purchase a seeming large amount for a low price, such as a $99.00 “special.” This is misleading because some practices will dilute the BOTOX® with large amounts of saline (salt water) so that the actual amount of BOTOX® in a full syringe may actually be very little.
It is important to be cautious when it appears that BOTOX® is being offered at a bargain price. This often means that the BOTOX® is being overly diluted, or being “reconstituted” with too much saline, which will make it less effective.
You should always ask the question, “how much saline are you adding to the vacuum dried container of BOTOX®?” or “What is your reconstitution ratio?”
Also, may practioners will charge a price for a specific area such as the crow’s feet. Always ask the question, “How many units am I receiving into this area?” If you don’t know how many units you are receiving, you may be receiving too little BOTOX®.
Dr. Flynn only charges for the exact number of units of BOTOX® that you receive. He follows the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) guidelines on “reconstitution.” In this way, you are guaranteed maximum efficacy of the BOTOX®.
Depending on the size and strength of the muscles being treated, different individuals may require a varying number of units to effectively treat an area of the face.
A general guideline however, as recommended by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons:
The forehead requires 20 units. Vertical frown lines require 20 units. Crow’s feet require 20 units (10 units per side).
The Perfect Introduction to Cosmetic Surgery: BOTOX®
Have you considered improving your appearance but are not sure how to do it?
Have you thought about having cosmetic surgery but don't want a "big procedure?"
BOTOX® is just the answer for you! BOTOX® without question is the fastest growing procedure performed by cosmetic surgeons. It is often the first step for someone considering cosmetic surgery for facial lines but who is not quite committed to or yet in need of a surgical procedure.
BOTOX® simply relaxes the lines away! BOTOX® weakens certain facial muscles which through repetitive use over the years cause lines, wrinkles, and furrows.
It is particularly useful to reverse "frown lines" in the forehead, creases between the eyebrows and "crow's feet" wrinkles around the eyes.
BOTOX® is administered by an injection which causes only mild discomfort and the entire procedure is completed in minutes.
There is no need for a local or topical anesthetic. You can return to work the same day; in fact, the injections often are given during lunch breaks. The beneficial effects are apparent in three to four days and last an average of four to six months.
The results are dramatic! You will be thrilled with your appearance and there's no "recovery" time! BOTOX® also becomes less frequently needed, because your face learns how to express itself without overly using muscles.
So, when should you first start using BOTOX®? There is no minimum age - it depends more on your amount of wrinkling and how much it bothers you. Most women who come in for BOTOX® are in their thirties or early forties.
But if you're starting to develop lines due to facial expressions as early as your twenties, obviously the sooner you begin the better chance you will have to avoid them.
And BOTOX® is completely safe. It has been used for years for cosmetic purposes and for decades for other medical purposes. Originally used for eye doctors to relieve eye spasms and crossed eyes, doctors started to notice their patients also experienced decreased wrinkling - and a phenomenal cosmetic treatment was born!
You should always inquire about your doctor's experience with BOTOX®. In skilled hands, BOTOX® should enhance your facial expression while removing unwanted wrinkles.
